A Massachusetts community attempted to ban profanity through passing a new regulation which enables authorities to impose a 20 dollar fine on anyone who curses in public. However, the new policy brought about a great deal of controversy and protestors began expressing their disapproval. As a result the attorney general had to order the town to rescind the regulation on cursing.

We live in a society where profanity is virtually ubiquitous. We hear it in song lyrics, television shows, movies, but especially in most day to day conversations. A research carried out by CareerBuilding has revealed rather unfortunate results. The survey revealed that over 90 percent of employees let out curse words before their co-workers and more than half of those same people tended to curse before their employers.

What was more shocking was the fact that profanity is even present in the household. Care.com researchers reported that 80 percent of parents tended to curse in front of their children and around half of children used curse words before their parents also.

The Christian community has been aware of the issue of profanity in America for a long time now. George O. Wood of the Assemblies of God emphasized the seriousness of profanity and how the Bible speaks out against it. It is important for all people, especially parents to realize that profanity is not only negative for people's welfare and children's education, but that it affects one's relationship with God also. Wood had this to say:

"The problem with profanity is that it is the symptom of what a "sin-sick' heart; a heart diseased by things like anger, hatred and lust. But those are precisely the heart the disease that Jesus wants to cure us of."
