The Cleveland Cavaliers recently made big trades, but the star-studded team is not yet done improving their roster as reports indicated that they are interested in acquiring Jordan Farmar and Tayshaun Prince.
Chris Haynes of Northeast Ohio Media Group reported that the Cavaliers reached out to Farmar after the veteran point guard's contract was bought out by the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday.
Cavaliers coach David Blatt recently said that the team needs more help in every position even after acquiring J.R Smith and Iman Shumpert in a three-team deal with the New York Knicks and Oklahoma City Thunder. The Cavaliers also acquired hulking center Timofey Mozgov from the Denver Nuggets for two first-round picks.
Farmar is a logical choice for the Cavaliers as they are still looking for backups to Kyrie Irving aside from Matthew Dellavedova. Farmar is familiar with Blatt, having played for the first-year NBA coach when they were still with Maccabi Tel Aviv in 2011.
In 36 games with the Clippers this season, Farmar averaged 4.6 points and 1.9 assists in 14.7 minutes per game. Last season, the 28-year-old playmaker averaged 10.1 points and 4.9 assists in 41 games with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Aside from Farmar, the Cavaliers are also reportedly interested in acquiring Prince, who was recently traded to the Boston Celtics in the deal that sent Jeff Green to Memphis Grizzlies.
Prince has been on the Cavaliers' radar since the season started, and previous reports indicated that Cleveland tried to acquire him alongside Grizzlies backup center Kosta Koufos before they struck a deal to acquire Mozgov from the Nuggets.
Sources indicated that the Celtics might buy Prince's contract out, which will make the 34-year-old a free agent halfway through the season. According to Sam Amico of Fox Sports, the Cavaliers are expected to lure Prince once he reaches a buyout agreement with Boston.
Acquiring Prince will not be a walk in the park for the Cavaliers, though. According to Ken Berger of CBS, the Clippers are also planning to make a strong push to acquire the 13-year veteran.
In 26 games with the Grizzlies this season, Prince averaged 7.3 points to go along with 3.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists. In 13 seasons in the league, who won an NBA title with the Pistons in 2004, holds a career average of 11.9 points 3.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists.
