Kevin Durant is continuously being linked to the Washington Wizards, but Oklahoma City Thunder superstar said that he has no plans to leave his current team if he will have it his way.
Durant, who will become an unrestricted free agent after the 2015-16 NBA season, will reportedly get a lucrative offer from the Wizards when he becomes available, but the reigning Most Valuable Player said that he is not focused on things that could happen in the future.
"I love playing for Oklahoma City, man," Durant told Revolt TV. "There's just a certain level of pride that I have when I play with that Oklahoma City on my chest. So that's the only thing I'm focused on."
Durant understands all the talks about him moving to Washington because it his hometown, especially after LeBron James decided to return to his hometown team Cleveland Cavaliers during the offseason following a four-year stint with the Miami Heat.
The 26-year-old superstar, who was picked by the franchise as the second overall pick in the 2007 NBA draft when the team was still known as the Seattle Supersonics, said that he will always represent Washington because it is where he came from, but reiterated that Oklahoma City feels like home for him.
"Everybody knows that I represent where I come from that no matter where I play at, no matter what arena," Durant said. "But I'm just focused on playing with Oklahoma City. It feels like home now. That's where I am."
Staying in Oklahoma City also makes business sense for Durant because the Thunder could offer an extra year and more money in the deal since they own the superstar forward's Bird rights.
But more than the money, Durant said that he is the type of player who would love to stick with the team until he retires as he wants to follow the footsteps of Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers, Tim Duncan of San Antonio Spurs and Dirk Nowitzki of Dallas Mavericks, who will all likely retire without playing for any other team.
"I'm one of those guys that would love to stick it out with one team my whole career," Durant said. "Kobe, Tim Duncan, Dirk Nowitzki type. That's awesome. But you never know what the future holds sometimes and how teams may feel about you after a while, but I love it here and I would love to get my jersey retired here."
