Nokia's deal with Microsoft did not only lead to the merging of the phone maker's mobile department to the software giant, it also agreed not to develop any smartphones bearing the Nokia name.
That may be so, but it looks like what's left of Nokia is trying to put itself back in the market with a rumored partnership.
According to a report by Phone Arena, the Finnish company is reportedly working with Chinese brand Meizu in developing a new high-end smartphone.
Dubbed as the MX4 Supreme, the smartphone will allegedly be released by Meizu for the Western market including Europe and North America. However, the Chinese manufacturer currently does not directly offer any of its smartphones to the US or other nearby markets.
Reports claim that the phone maker's decisions regarding its phones' look, feel and features are not fit for the Western market. And so, in an attempt to further cover the international market and compete with the likes of Samsung, Sony and LG, Meizu will reportedly join hands with Nokia, which certainly knows how to sell phones.
As one of the pioneers in the phone industry, Nokia will be a big help for Meizu's goals of market expansion. In the report, the MX4 Supreme is rumored to come with Meizu's usual sleek design and thin bezels, which are proven to work great in the Asian market.
However, in order to increase its appeal in the US, Canada and even the UK, the company will let Nokia tinker with the hardware, software and some features which would be available.
In addition, Nokia will also be in charge of choosing the right hue of colors for the phone's case. While the market should not expect Asha-like smartphones, Nokia's color choices may provide a livelier facade to Meizu's sleek, but boring-looking handsets.
