Weeks prior to the official opening of the NFL season and the rivalry between two of the biggest teams in the league is starting to give fans a glimpse of what to expect once the games begin. In yet another display of psychological warfare tactics, the Dallas Cowboys flew a banner over the field of the Philadelphia Eagles courtesy of the former's defensive end Greg Hardy.
Planned and organized by the fans of the Cowboys, the practice session of the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field during the weekend was interrupted by the banner towed by a small plane that flew over the stadium, according to ESPN. It read, "WE STILL DEM BOYZ!!!! #SACKSCOMIN."
In response, the more than 40,000 fans in attendance of the practice session of the Philadelphia NFL team began to chant, "Dallas sucks!" The repeated yells of the crowd only ceased after the Cowboys' plane was out of sight. While this may seem like an unprovoked taunt on the side of the Dallas NFL team, reports reveal that it was the Eagles who threw the first stone.
According to NJ.com, the taunting began when fans and followers of the Eagles sent a banner via a small plane - pretty much in the same fashion followed by the Cowboys group. The banner sent earlier read, "WE'VE GOT DEMARCO," which referred to the decision of free agent DeMarco Murray to sign with the Eagles. DeMarco was initially with the Cowboys prior to the move to the Philadelphia locker room.
Cowboys defensive end Hardy came into the picture when he contributed to the GoFundMe page of the NFL team which was created by fans and followers of the Dallas boys. Discussing the plan to retaliate on the banner sent over by the Eagles, the creators discussed with the Cowboys fans the possible responses of the team to the taunt of the Philly boys.
The admin wrote, "Originally we were going to go with "KEEP HIM", but we feel a strong need to let the Philthadelphia faithful know just who won the division last season, and who is taking it again." The issue on what to put in the banner was resolved, however, when Hardy extended his support. The update read, "After Greg Hardy's contribution of $300, we decided to thank and honor him by selecting his suggestion for the banner."
Blasting the banner sent by the Cowboys, the Eagles felt that the stunt was unnecessary. "A waste of money," commented Lane Johnson, the Eagles right tackle. He added, "I think he's a hothead and gets carried away with himself. He's going to have his hands full with 71, I promise you that." Johnson is referring to Pro Bowler Jason Peters of the Eagles who wears the jersey number mentioned.
