The Seattle Seahawks are unsure if Marshawn Lynch will still be with the team when the 2015 NFL season starts as reports revealed that the running back is still considering retirement this offseason.
Lynch, a five-time Pro Bowl player and one-time Super Bowl champion, still has one year left in the four-year deal worth $30 million he signed with the Seahawks in 2012, but the veteran RB might just leave the money on the table and retire for good after eight seasons in the league.
Seahawks general manager John Schneider reiterated that they want Lynch to return for another season and they are actually planning to offer a new deal, which would give their superstar more than the $8.5 million that he is scheduled to receive next season.
However, Schneider remains clueless on what Lynch is planning to do, but he admitted that he will not be shocked if the eight-year veteran eventually tells them that will walk away from the game this offseason.
"I mean, he's a guy that kind of just, you know, beat goes to his own drum," Schneider told Seattle PI, referring to Lynch. "He does what he wants. He would never let you know one way or the other. There's been a lot of great running backs that have just walked away, so I have no idea."
Lynch had another solid year for the Seahawks last season, rushing for 1,306 yards and for 13 touchdowns to go along with four TD catches during the regular season.
The 28-year-old also rushed for two more touchdowns for the Seahawks in the postseason, where they failed to defend their title after losing to New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX earlier this month.
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll admitted that he has not talked to Lynch since their loss to the Patriots, but he is still convinced that the California native will return for another season unless the running back tells him otherwise.
"We're always preparing for the future with him," Carroll said of Lynch during the scouting combine Friday. "We've never thought of the future without him. Hopefully, it will work out."
Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports revealed on Sunday that the Seahawks and Lynch are about to complete a two-year extension, which would give the RB $12 million next season and $9 million next year.
However, Lynch's agent, Doug Hendrickson, quickly doused cold water to the report, saying that there is no deal in place for his client at this point of the offseason.
