The Dallas Cowboys are in search for a quarterback and will reportedly try to move up in the 2016 NFL Draft to acquire either Carson Wentz or Paxton Lynch.
NFL insider Benjamin Allbright of AM 1340 reported that the Cowboys are indeed looking at the possibility of pulling off a trade to acquire the No. 1 pick from the Tennessee Titans.
If they successfully convince the Titans to trade the first pick in the draft, the Cowboys are expected to use it to draft Wentz, the quarterback prospect from North Dakota State. Dallas own the No. 4 pick in the draft, but the Cowboys will draft behind the Cleveland Browns, who are also reportedly planning to draft Wentz.
It remains to be seen, though, what assets the Cowboys are willing to give up to acquire the No. 1 pick. Most analysts think that it will be a risky move despite the fact that Wentz is considered as the top quarterback prospect in the 2016 NFL Draft.
Allbright also added that the Cowboys could just stay at No. 4 and just use their second-round pick to select a quarterback like Connor Cook of Michigan State or Jacoby Brissett of NC State.
In the event the Cowboys decide to go into another direction in the first round, analyst Mike Mayock told NFL Network that Dallas could just decide to get another pick late in the first round to target Memphis QB Paxton Lynch.
Mayock said that the Cowboys could acquire a pick higher than Denver Broncos' 31st pick and Arizona Cardinals' 29th pick, as both teams are also eyeing Lynch. The San Diego Chargers could also go into the same direction to acquire Lynch if they decide not to use their No. 3 pick for a quarterback.
NFL analyst Bucky Brooks also said in the same report that Lynch is a logical choice for teams who are searching for quarterback help like the Cowboys, who are eyeing for a new QB who could eventually take Tony Romo's place.
"He may come in and it may take him some time to get on the field, but in terms of his long-term potential and talent, he has more talent than some of the other guys in the class," Brooks said of Lynch.
