The Johnny Manziel era could end prematurely as the Browns are reportedly in talks with the Philadelphia Eagles about a trade that could involve the second-year quarterback before the start of the 2015 NFL season.
Mack Ferguson of Chat Sports revealed that the Eagles and the Browns are looking to improve their quarterback options for next season and believe that swapping their QBs will do good for both teams.
Sources close to the situation said that one agent privy to the discussion revealed that the Browns are planning to send Manziel and a draft pick to the Eagles in exchange for Bradford.
The likelihood of the deal depends on what assets the Browns are willing to give up in the deal. The source said that the Eagles want a first-round pick in the deal, but the Browns are only willing to offer their second-round pick. The Browns also want to make sure that Bradford will commit to the team for more than one season.
While most analysts believe that fans should take the news with a grain of salt, Chat Sports founder and CEO James Yoder reiterated to Dawgs By Nature that the report is authentic because it came from an agent who is aware of the ongoing discussions between the two clubs.
"The source in the situation is a very close friend of one of the agents of a player involved in the potential trade and took a 25 minute call with our staff today," Yoder wrote in an email to Dawgs By Nature. "He can't guarantee the trade takes place, but we can with 100% confidence say that the content we published is factual."
It should also be noted that the Browns have long been linked to the Bradford. St. Louis Rams coach Jeff Fisher confirmed last month that the Browns made a strong push to acquire Bradford.
According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Northeast Ohio Media Group, Cleveland offered a first-round pick in the upcoming draft in exchange for Bradford, but the Rams wanted more assets in return. As a result, the Rams opted to trade Bradford to the Eagles in exchange for quarterback Nick Foles and rights to exchange draft picks.
Rumors about the Manziel-Bradford swap also came just days after Browns left tackle revealed that the former Heisman Trophy winner has lost a lot of trust because of his demeanor last season. The 22-year-old quarterback entered treatment facility this offseason in the hope of improving as a person on and off the playing field.
