The Philadelphia Eagles are reportedly considering trading quarterback Sam Bradford to get a shot at drafting promising QB Marcus Mariota in the upcoming 2015 NFL Draft.
According to Mark Eckel of the New Jersey Advance Media, the Eagles could send Bradford to the Browns in exchange for the 19th overall pick in the rookie selection later this month.
The Browns, who have been looking to add a solid quarterback with the future of Johnny Manziel still hanging on the balance, have been chasing Bradford over the past several weeks. Cleveland offered the same pick to the St. Louis Rams before the Eagles eventually won the bidding war by giving up Nick Foles along with a second-round pick.
Bradford has made it no secret that he is not interested in playing in Cleveland on a long-term basis, but the Browns are still willing to roll the dice and give up their first-rounder to acquire the 27-year-old quarterback.
And if the Browns and Eagles strike a deal involving Bradford, Philadelphia will then shift their focus on negotiating a deal with the Tennessee Titans, who own the second overall pick in the upcoming draft.
Sources indicated that the Eagles will likely give up their own first-round that is at No. 20 and the No. 19 pick from the Browns along with defensive tackle Fletcher Cox and linebacker Mychal Kendricks for the No. 2 pick, which would give them the opportunity to nab the services of Mariota.
Cox and Kendricks are both expendable assets as they are both in the final year of their respective contracts with Philadelphia and there are no indications the Eagles will try to negotiate a new deal with them.
Reports also revealed that the Titans and Eagles might negotiate a deal that will not involve the Browns. The Eagles might send Bradford, Cox, Kendricks and their first-round pick in exchange for the second pick in the draft. This speculation intensified as reports revealed Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt is interested in acquiring Bradford.
However, the deal will also depend on what the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are planning to do in the draft. The Bucs hold the first pick in the 2015 NFL Draft and are considering drafting either Mariota or former Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston.
If the Bucs decide to pick Mariota, it remains to be seen whether or not the Eagles will pull the trigger on the rumored trades. Sources indicated that they are looking to move up in draft just for Mariota.
