A Korean American high school student, with the help of several supporters, started off the Christmas season by giving 200 pairs of new shoes to elementary school students in low-income households on December 7.

Amy Jang, a 10th grader studying at Troy High School, began a non-profit organization called Youth Hope Summit as an eighth grader in 2013. Jang began fundraising through various individual donations and through the proceeds of a concert that Youth Hope Summit hosted during its beginnings.

In June, students in Golden Hills Elementary School in Fullerton and Hobart Elementary School in Los Angeles have already received new shoes. Monday's donation was given to students in Sanchez Elementary School in Norwalk. A total of 400 pairs of shoes were given in total since June.

Sanchez Elementary School selected 200 students in November based on their needs to receive the new shoes, and these students make up some 52 percent of the entire student body.

Jang shared in June that one event that motivated her to begin Youth Hope Summit is hearing the story of Malala Yousafzai, who, at a young age, has been able to make a difference in the lives of many people. Jang also receives help from older adult volunteers, including Alex Yu, the director of Youth Hope Summit to organize events.
