OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei announced that the release for the Cyanogen OS12 for the One smartphone has been halted due to an additional feature.
The executive explained that once the roll out resumes, the OS update will include the OK OnePlus voice command feature, NDTV reported.
Several OnePlus One users began to receive the Cyanogen OS12 update last week. However, the process was paused temporarily to include the OK OnePlus, which was supposed to be unveiled in June of 2014.
Pei said through Twitter that the roll out should be expected to resume this week. However, after the tweet was deleted, various sources speculated that the re-release of the update might have been pushed back to a later date.
As for those who already have the Cyanogen OS12 update, they can download the OK OnePlus feature as an OTA update.
The OK OnePlus is a voice command feature that's being compared to Android's OK Google, which makes use of hotwords to control some of the smartphone's functions. Pei noted that the OK OnePlus feature will only be available for the Cyaogen OS12, and will not come with the company's own OS, the OxygenOS.
Aside from the stalled OS update roll out, OnePlus announced that it will change its marketing strategy for its smartphones. The company confirmed that the OnePlus One can now be purchased by anyone, according to CNET.
When the One device debuted in April of last year, a lot of consumers were disappointed because the Android-based smartphone can only be purchased if one received an invitation from the company. But now, the mobile device is available to the public and is priced at $299 for the 16GB version and $349 for the 64GB model.
The company also confirmed that it is working on a second device, dubbed as the OnePlus 2. However, OnePlus said that it will bring back the invitation-only system once the 2 debuts.
"Yes, the 2 will initially launch with invites," the company wrote in a blog post. "We're committed to maintaining razor-thin margins in order to give as much value as possible back to our users, and this drastically increases out risk."
"The OnePlus 2 will bring the challenges that come along with a brand new product, and initially, our invite system will help us to manage that risk," OnePlus continued.
