Starz recently released a teaser trailer for Outlander to mark the show's upcoming return, according to Coming Soon.

The show is primarily based on the historical romance novels written by Dianna Gabaldon, which carry the same title. It revolves around the story of a married combat nurse, named Claire Randall, who gets transported into a completely different period in history following an unexplained incident near the stones located on top of a hill. Prior to the mysterious experience, Claire has been living with her husband, Frank Randall, in the year 1945.

The story begins to unravel as Claire suddenly gets transported to the year 1743, where she encounters countless life threatening obstacles ranging from power hungry members of the society during that period to accusations of witchcraft against her person and another who might have the same odd plight as her. Amidst all the dangerous and mind altering experiences, however, Claire finds herself getting forcefully married to a young man from that era, named Jamie Fraser.

Although Claire has been established to be married at the start of the novel, her inability to not only explain fully her true situation but also to convince anyone during that period to believe her pushed the union into completion. Jamie, a Scottish warrior facing his own share of perils and danger, gradually becomes attached to the strange newcomer to the point of frequently putting his life on the line to save the lady.

One of the main dilemmas in the story, particularly for Claire, is the fact that two men now occupy the lady protagonist's heart. She is torn between going back to her husband in 1945 and staying with the brave young man who appeared to love her more than life itself. Apart from that, she needs to make a decision on whether she could leave behind all the comforts brought about by the advancement of mankind in her era just to be with Jamie in a period deprived of even the most basic amenities she has been used to.

Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan star as Claire and Jamie in Outlander, respectively, while Tobias Menzies portray the role of Frank.

The show, which is executively produced by Ronald D. Moore, will be returning with eight new episodes starting April 4. This will mark the second season for Outlander.
