Former world champion Ricky Hatton and promoter Leonard Ellerbe believes Floyd Mayweather Jr. will win against Manny Pacquiao in their upcoming showdown on May 2 at MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Hatton, who faced and lost to both fighters during his professional boxing career, said that Pacquiao has the tools to hand Mayweather the first defeat of his boxing career, but he will still put his money on the reigning pound-for-pound king in the Cinco de Mayo weekend showdown.
While Pacquiao has the style to put Mayweather into trouble, Hatton said the unbeaten world champion will eventually be able to adapt to Pacquiao's style and game plan en route to a victory, which would be the 48th of his illustrious boxing career.
"Although I think Manny has the style to beat him, I'm still going to go with Mayweather," Hatton said told Daily Star UK. "Mayweather always finds a way to win and adapt his style. The cleverest fighter in boxing is Floyd Mayweather. I think he adapts his style to whatever opponent he faces and I think he will do the same against Manny."
On the other hand, Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions, believes his big boss will score a convincing victory against Pacquiao in their highly anticipated fight, which is expected to become the richest bout in boxing history.
Ellerbe does not only think Mayweather will win against Pacquiao, he is convinced the Grand Rapids native will knock his Filipino rival out. He does not care about what Pacquiao is doing in training camp, saying that all he cares about is what Mayweather will do on fight night and he is confident the unbeaten champion will remain undefeated.
"The fans are going to get a great fight that night," Ellerbe said of the upcoming showdown. "I don't know what Manny Pacquiao has to do on May 2, but I know what Floyd Mayweather has to do. He has to do what he normally does and go in there and execute his game plan and I really expect Floyd to knock him out."
Mayweather, who holds a perfect 47-0 record with 26 knockout victories, will defend his World Boxing Council and World Boxing Association welterweight title. Pacquiao, on the other hand, will put his World Boxing Organization welterweight title on the line, while WBC will also award a special emerald belt to the winner of the bout.
