Former Las Vegas boxing judge CJ Ross and boxing legend Shane Mosley believes Floyd Mayweather will score a knockout win against Manny Pacquiao in their upcoming fight on May 2 at MGM Grand Arena in Nevada.
Ross, who has judged in previous fights of both fighters, said that Pacquiao and Mayweather are both past their primes. Based on what he saw from the recent fights of both fighters, Ross thinks Pacquiao's skills have declined more compared to Mayweather.
"I have observed and judged both fighters for most of their careers and have witnessed the effects of age on both," Ross told World Boxing News. "I've seen more of a decline in Manny Pacquiao than I have seen in Floyd Mayweather. Mayweather still has his punch speed, although he has lost some of his foot speed."
While he thinks Mayweather is not the same fighter he was before, Ross still thinks the reigning pound-for-pound king is way better than Pacquiao in terms of skills. The veteran judge predicted a win for Mayweather - not by decision but by knockout within the first eight rounds of the match.
"He has never been a knockout puncher, but he has enough desire to not go out as a loser," Ross said of Mayweather. "Pacquiao on the other hand has weaker legs, his timing is off and he has lost before. He has the heart though and might be able to hold out in the early rounds, but I don't see it going past the eight."
On the other hand, Mosley is also excited to watch the top two boxers of the current generation go toe-to-toe inside the ring. However, he warned fans to temper their expectations because they might not get the kind of fight that they are expecting on Cinco de Mayo weekend.
Mosley said that the fight could turn into a boring showdown depending on how Pacquiao will handle the fighting style of Mayweather. He quickly added, though, that fans could also witness a knockout win not for Pacquiao, but for Mayweather just for one simple reason - Mayweather's strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza.
"If Mayweather out "boxes" Pacquiao, and Pacquiao can't catch him then you're in for a boring fight," Mosley told On The Ropes Boxing Radio. "Although, now that Mayweather has Alex Ariza, he may have that unknown strength Ariza gives his fighters so Mayweather might be looking for a KO, you never know."
Mayweather, who holds a perfect 47-0 record with 26 knockouts, is considered by many as favorite to win over Pacquiao in their upcoming fight, which is expected to be the biggest in history in terms of revenue.
