After almost 15 hours in the air, and 12 hours in Korea, the KCCC Mongolia mission team finally landed in Chinggis Khan International Airport in Ulanbaataar, the capital city of Mongolia. The 11 Korean American missionaries were greeted by 4 Mongolian CCC key students and 2 full-time staff who will be living and serving with them for the next 3 weeks.
For 9 of the team members it was their first time in Mongolia, and most of them admitted that they never even imagined themselves to be in the country. There were even some language barriers between the American and Mongolian students. In order to overcome these differences, the staff of both teams hosted a small event they called the UB Adventure.
Two to three Korean American students teamed with one Mongolian key student to tour the city together. On the way, the students would have to fulfill certain objects such as exchanging money at a bank and sending a postcard to their families in California. However, the main objective of the UB Adventure was for the students to get to know each other better and effectively carry out their ministry.
Ulanbaataar, the capital city of Mongolia literally means "Red Hero" in Mongolian. Mongolia was a communist nation until the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. The population of this nation is around 3 million, and 70 percent of the people live in this city either in apartments or the neighboring "Gerr District" where people would live in traditional tents.
There are around a hundred universities in Ulanbaataar. Most of the colleges are private schools which were founded by Korean professors and missionaries. Most government-funded schools have MCCC ministries actively working to spread the Gospel, and MCCC staffs hope to start campus movements in every private college by the year 2020.
