Fans and followers of the witty and sassy Puss in Boots may have something else to get excited about as news recently came out that Shrek might be Shrek taking part in the upcoming sequel of the Antonio Banderas film, according to an interview of the actor with Empire.

Puss in Boots 2: Nine Lives & 40 Thieves, which will once again feature Banderas in the lead role as the suave and funny Puss, might be joined by Shrek, voiced by Mike Myers. The rumor was further fueled by Banderas himself as he directly addressed the speculation during the interview.

"I heard some rumors that Shrek may be coming back," the actor shared. "That would be great. Shrek doing a cameo... in MY movie? Uh, huh! Yeah, I'd like that," Banderas added. The first Puss in Boots film came out in 2011 and was recognized as a highly successful spinoff from the Shrek series.

Moreover, Banderas shared that they are "restricting the script now," referring to the possible addition of Shrek and other characters from the much loved series to the upcoming sequel.

"We started... but that's the process. A lot of people participate in the creation of the script and the story and the narrative, everything. And they include you! They take you to California and you read the script with them, give them your ideas, and a couple of months later you see a new script where everything has been touched up," the Puss in Boots actor disclosed.

The 20th Century Fox film will once again be executively produced by Guillermo del Toro. Although the Shrek film in 2010, titled Shrek Forever, was said to be the last film for the franchise, speculation have surfaced that a fifth movie might be under consideration.

"We like to let them have a little bit of time to rest," said Jeffrey Katzenberg, CEO of DreamWorks Animation, regarding the possibility of another Shrek film gracing the big screen. "But I think you can be confident that we'll have another chapter in the 'Shrek' series. We're not finished, and more importantly, neither is he," the executive added.
