After several weeks of talks and negotiations, "The Notebook" star Rachel McAdams has just signed on to play the leading lady role in Marvel's mystical film "Doctor Strange," which stars "Sherlock" actor Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular character.

McAdams will be joining an already impressive line-up including "The Chronicles of Narnia" star Tilda Swinton as Strange's mentor The Ancient One and "12 Years a Slave" Chiwetel Ejiofor as the villain Baron Mordo. It has been rumored that "Hannibel" star Mads Mikkelsen will also be joining the cast as another villain, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

The news was revealed by McAdams herself during an interview with The Wrap. "CONFIRMED: Rachel McAdams tells TheWrap at Toronto that she will star opposite Benedict Cumberbatch in Marvel's DOCTOR STRANGE," tweeted Jeff Schneider.

People still do not know which character she will be portraying opposite Cumberbatch's Sorcerer Supreme, but some fans are already playing guessing games about her possible role.

The first guess, made by Screen Rant, is that she will be playing Clea, daughter of Prince Orini and mistress of the Dark Dimension. In the comic books, she becomes the pupil and then lover of Strange after he takes on the title of Sorcerer Supreme.

Clea was first introduced in 1964 and has been a key figure in the mystical world of "Doctor Strange." Moreover, it is important to note that Clea happens to be the niece of Dormammu, who is the demonic tyrant and natural enemy of Strange, so conflicts will definitely rise when Strange pursues a relationship with Clea.

Moreover, the theory of McAdams playing Clea is further supported with Mikkelsen's possible involvement in the film, since many are actually guessing that Mikkelsen would be playing Dormammu in Scott Derrickson's Marvel movie.

On the other hand, McAdams can also portray Morgana Blessing, who debuted in the "Doctor Strange" comic books back in 1981. Her character has shifted from being a friend and enemy to Strange over the years, even though she is a long-time lover of the doctor. Blessing also has deep ties with Baron Mordo.

The movie's synopsis reads: "After his career is destroyed, a brilliant but arrogant surgeon gets a new lease on life when a sorcerer takes him under his wing and trains him to defend the world against evil."

It is written by Jon Spaihts based on an earlier script drafted by Joshua Oppenheimer and Thomas Dean Donnelly.

"Doctor Strange" has been slated for release on November 4, 2016.
