For the past couple of months, the rumor mill has been filled with reports and alleged specs about Samsung's upcoming devices. While the Galaxy S6 is already out of the question, what reports are waiting for is the toned down version of the Galaxy Note Edge.
Recent reports and rumors are pointing to a possible announcement at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona beginning March 1. However, the Korean manufacturer confirmed on Monday with a teaser image of its upcoming press event.
According to a report by Phone Arena, Samsung released its official teaser image for its own press launch during the MWC event. While the image already confirmed what most tech websites know and expect anyway, the photo in the invitation piqued the interest of readers.
In the report, the curved line at the center of the invitation looks like a silhouette of the rumored Samsung Galaxy S Edge. Below the curved line are the words 'What's Next', which could pertain to the Galaxy S Edge as the 'next' Galaxy handset to boast the Edge design.
In September, the Korean tech giant unleashed the Galaxy Note Edge alongside the Galaxy Note 4 flagship. The device used Samsung's Super AMOLED display which curves on its right edge. The curved edge allows users to place app shortcuts, and it could also be a customizable notification center.
A report from BGR India pointed out that a patent has just leaked, which pertains to a dual curved display design. This could mean the new Galaxy S Edge would arrive with not just one, but two curved edges.
In the report by Phone Arena, the extra space (or spaces) could be used to display virtual controls, notifications, sports scores, stocks details, and other information. As a result, the 'main' screen would be less cluttered and would keep the minimalist look of Android 5.0 Lollipop.
Aside from the curved edge design, the Galaxy S Edge is rumored to boast a 5.1-inch display with either Full HD (1920 x 1080) or QHD (2560 x 1440). Other specs which are expected to be on board include options for 32GB, 64GB and 128GB internal memory, and compatibility with the freshly announced Galaxy VR device.
