The Mobile World Congress in Barcelona is less than a month away, and rumors are piling up as March approaches.
However, most people don't expect to hear about phone's pricing rates before it is announced. Interestingly, alleged pricing details for the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S Edge have been allegedly unveiled.
According to a report by Phone Arena, the pricing details for the two high-end devices in Europe have been leaked. In the report, both devices should arrive with 32GB, 64GB or 128GB of built-in storage, with the Galaxy S6 priced at €749, €849 and €949 based on those options.
Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S Edge is tipped to be more expensive for the same amount of storage. The report says that the Android handset with a curved edge display wiill be €100 more expensive: €849, €949 and €1,049.
But why is the S Edge more expensive? The curved edge display of the Galaxy S Edge will certainly be a key factor. Moreover, in a new report by BGR India, Samsung has just filed a patent for two curved edges, not just one.
In a report by AndroidPit, the pricing details for both smartphones which were mentioned earlier are for unlocked units, which means they will not be subsidized through a network carrier or provider. Consumers may get the smartphones via a network carrier in a multi-year contract.
As the report indicated, the Samsung Galaxy S5 was priced at €729 when it was announced last year. That means the €20 increase for the Galaxy S6 base model is highly possible.
The Galaxy S6 can be considered locked in for a MWC announcement, though there are still rumors pointing out the the Galaxy S Edge may arrive later. However, the invitation released by Samsung yesterday reportedly featured the curved display of the Galaxy S Edge.
Samsung will aim to take on other Android flagships that are expected to be unveiled in Q2 this year. That includes the HTC One M9, Sony Xperia Z4 and the LG G4, as well as other upcoming handsets from Xiaomi and Huawei.
