The first teaser trailer for Oliver Stone's "Snowden' has been unveiled, although there are no scenes taken directly from the movie that are shown in the clip.
Instead, just the tone of the Open Roads biopic is highlighted in the one-minute, 26-second trailer.
Starring Joseph Gordon Levitt as NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, the teaser trailer draws attention to an upside-down Stars and Stripes flag with which messages stating that the controversial computer programmer as the "most wanted man in the world" flash on the screen.
The upcoming biopic, which is drawn out from the Guardian reporter Luke Harding's book, "The Snowden Files,' makes it way to cinemas on Christmas Day.
For the movie, Stone was also given screenwriting and production support from Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto, Tom Wilkinson and Timothy Olyphant.
Earlier this year, Open Road shared a photo of Gordon-Levitt and co-star Shailene Woodley as they filmed near the Washington Monument, apparently discussing some matters.
The photo was posted on the studio's official Facebook and Twitter pages. It had been the very first look at the pair together as the "Don Jon' actor portrayed Snowden while the "Divergent' actress played his girlfriend Lindsay Mills.
Previously a member of the National Security Agency, the former contractor made the headlines after leaking private documents that exposed confidential information relating to U.S. government surveillance, which was accordingly met with mixed responses.
After charges were made against Snowden by the U.S. Department of Justice, particularly two counts of violating the Espionage Act and theft of government property, the former CIA employee's passport was revoked.
Considered a hero to numerous liberals and libertarians but a traitor to conservatives, the computer programmer left the United States in 2013.
Now, Snowden and Mills are reportedly sharing a home and living together in Moscow for almost a year now, after President Putin granted Snowden temporary political asylum until 2017.
This upcoming biopic from Stone will follow the approach used by helmer Laura Poitras in "Citizenfour', a documentary that also sheds light on Snowden's story and the spying controversy of the NSA.
In February, Poitras and Mills graced the stage with their presence Poitras after "Citizenfour' received the award for best documentary feature at the Academy Awards.
Meanwhile, in upcoming movies, Gordon-Levitt takes on the role of high-wire artist Philippe Petit in "The Walk', which is directed by Robert Zemeckis and will make its way to cinemas on Oct. 2.
Golden Globe nominee Woodley recently appeared in "Insurgent', sequel to "Divergent', where she portrays the role of Tris alongside Theo James and Ansel Elgort.
Aside from Gordon-Levitt and Woodley, 'Snowden' also stars Nicholas Cage, Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto and Scott Eastwood.
