Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea is continuously being linked to a move out of Manchester United, but the Spain international hinted that he is determined to stay at Old Trafford.
De Gea, who is reportedly on the radar of Spanish La Liga powerhouse Real Madrid, said in an interview with FIFA that the Barclays Premier League remains the best option for him because he has been improving a lot since moving to United from Atletico Madrid in 2011.
"Truth be told, English football has changed me a great deal," De Gea said. "I've developed a lot physically, greatly improved my concentration and generally improved all aspects of my game. I was very young when I came here, but four years on, things are very good overall. This league really suits me, as you learn a lot here."
The talks about De Gea's exit intensified after Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal signed 33-year-old goalkeeper Victor Valdes. Most analysts viewed the move as a backup plan in case they decide to part ways with the De Gea. Asked about the move to sign Valdes, De Gea insisted that he sees nothing wrong with it.
"Victor Valdes and I work very well together," De Gea stressed. "I'm very happy to be with him. I'm learning so much from him, not just in goalkeeping terms given his immense experience, but also as a person. He's a very straightforward guy with a lot of character. Moreover, he's always ready to lend a hand."
De Gea's contract with Manchester United will expire in the summer of 2016, and Real Madrid are reportedly preparing to make a strong push to acquire the goalkeeper. Reports indicated that Real Madrid are already preparing to part ways with Iker Casillas, who has been with the club for 18 years.
According to reports, Real Madrid want to make sure the top goalkeeper in Spain is playing for their club. Casillas is currently the No. 1 goalkeeper of the Spanish national team, but there are rumblings De Gea will take the spot soon.
