Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez could eventually return to the English Premier League, as reports suggested that the Arsenal Gunners are eyeing the Mexican striker.
Hernandez is currently playing for German Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen and is proving that he can contribute if given enough opportunity. In 14 league games, the 27-year-old has netted 11 goals for Leverkusen, which makes him a hot target for top-tier clubs in Europe.
According to Daily Star, the Gunners are one of the teams who are looking for a possible move to acquire Hernandez in the upcoming transfer window and Chicharito is also interested in returning to the Premier League.
"Sources close to the player - nicknamed Chicharito or Little Pea - suggest that he would like another crack at the Premier League and this has alerted Arsene Wenger's Arsenal, who are seeking cover for France forward Olivier Giroud," the Daily Star report revealed.
Metro also linked Hernandez to a move to Arsenal. According to the report, which quoted Don Balon, Gunners star Alexis Sanchez reached out to Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger to express strong desire to play alongside Hernandez.
Sanchez is reportedly convinced that Hernandez will be a huge boost to the team and he is confident that they can link up together effectively, which is the reason why the Chile international is asking Wenger to complete a deal soon.
Hernandez moved to Manchester United in 2010, when the Red Devils were still under popular manager Sir Alex Ferguson. But after having promising performances in his first three years at Old Trafford, Hernandez went on a downward spiral, especially after Ferguson decided to retire.
Hernandez moved to Real Madrid on loan last season and return to Manchester United earlier this year. However, Chicharito opted to move to Bayer Leverkusen despite his strong desire to stay in the Premier League.
Chicharito said that he made the difficult decision because current Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal told him that he will have limited opportunities at Old Trafford. In turn, the decision worked well for the Mexico international.
"I spoke with Van Gaal and he said that I only had a 1% chance of playing in my position, so I headed to Bayer," Hernandez told Marca. "I felt confident from the very first day. I feel important, not just because of my goals, but because I feel that I'll start every game."
