The Leicester City Foxes are currently on top of the English Premier League standings mainly because of the impressive performances of stars Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez. But will they be able to keep both of them in the upcoming January transfer window?
Mahrez and Vardy are expected to get a lot of attention in January as they have been involved in 35 of Leicester City's goals this season. But even if they get lucrative offers from top-tier European clubs next month, Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri said that they will not sell their stars.
"No one can buy Vardy or Mahrez in January," Ranieri said after scoring a 2-1 win against defending league champions Chelsea on Monday. "They don't have the money and they don't have a price."
Mahrez, who has 11 goals and eight assists for Leicester City this season, also addressed rumors about his future at King Power Stadium. The Algeria international said that he is aware of the possibility of getting lucrative deals elsewhere, but he insisted that he is determined to finish the season with Leicester City.
"The best thing for me would be to stay. I'm not going to leave in January," Mahrez told RMC. "It wouldn't be good for my team if I left. If we lose an individual like me, Vardy or Kante, it could penalize the team. I'd prefer to continue with the team until the end of the season."
On the other hand, Vardy also insisted that he is not thinking of moving to a bigger club anytime soon. According to Mirror, Premier League giants Manchester United and Chelsea are interested in striking a big-money deal to acquire Vardy in January.
Vardy admitted that it is his dream to play for a big club, earn a lucrative paycheck and win trophies. But he is confident that he can achieve those goals at King Power Stadium under Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri's guidance.
"I do think Leicester can match my ambitions," Vardy told Mirror. "The gaffer [Ranieri] has come in and told the owners what he wants to do and he wants to keep progressing. He wants to progress on what we did last year and in years to come he wants to keep us going up and up and up. It's great for the club and he is a great manager."
Vardy, who became the first player in English Premier League history to score a goal in 11 straight matches, has tallied 15 goals and two assists in 16 appearances this season.
