FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi hinted on Tuesday that he could leave Camp Nou after the 2014-15 season, reports confirmed.
Messi, who has spent his entire club career with FC Barcelona, said that he is focused on helping his team win titles this season, but hinted that changes might come after the current season.
"I am thinking about having a great year and winning the trophies we want at Barcelona - nothing else," Messi said, ESPN FC reported. "Later, we will see. In football, things change all the time. Although I have always said I would like to stay there forever, sometimes everything does not always go as you want."
Messi signed a new deal earlier this year, which increased his salary to 20 million Euros per year with a release clause of 250 million, and will last until June 2018. However, before agreeing to new contract terms, reports suggested that he has strained relationship with FC Barcelona's top executives.
Recent rumors suggested that the relationship between Messi and club official has not improved over the past several months. The 27-year-old superstar said that he wants to finish his career at Camp Nou, but conceded that there are things that are out of his control.
"I have said it many times, if it were for me, I would stay forever," Messi said. "But as I said before, everything does not always come out as you want - even more in football, which changes so much and in which so many things can happen. It is complicated, even more given what is happening today at Barcelona."
Should Messi become available on the transfer market, several top-tier teams are expected to make a strong push to acquire the Argentine superstar, who has already tallied seven goals and seven assists in 11 Spanish La Liga games this season.
Previous reports indicated that Manchester City, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are interested in Messi. Real Madrid are also expected to get in the mix, but a deal between them and their FC Barcelona is highly unlikely, considering their longtime rivalry.
