Manchester United are looking to improve their attacking options dramatically, as reports revealed that they are interested in acquiring FC Barcelona striker Neymar. Will the Red Devils manage to secure the services of the Brazilian superstar in the January transfer window?
The Red Devils were reportedly in a good position to attract Neymar after the striker's father said in a recent interview that his son could be forced to leave FC Barcelona because of his ongoing tax case.
"I do not want to talk about persecution but if we don't have a comfortable situation to work we cannot stay in Spain," Neymar's father told Cadena SER. "We never had such big fiscal problems in Brazil. After arriving Spain the attacks began and the attacks have now spread to Brazil."
However, it was also reported that Neymar is close to signing a new deal with FC Barcelona. The 23-year-old will reportedly ink a six-year deal that will play him £10.5 million per year, which will make him the third-highest paid player in the world behind Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi and Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
While there is still no official agreement between Neymar and FC Barcelona, club secretary Robert Fernandez said in a recent interview that the two parties will reach an agreement soon.
"When one starts with the intention to renew, we all know that we can reach an agreement," Fernandez told Sky Sports. "We are all in agreement that Neymar will stay here at Barcelona."
Fernandez added that Neymar is happy at Camp Nou and expressed confidence that the tax fraud issues will be settled soon. He believes the issue is not enough to cast doubts on Neymar's bright future at Camp Nou, where he is expected to become the face of the franchise in the future.
"Neymar is content and happy at Barcelona and that's the most important thing for us," Fernandez added. "We must face the situation calmly, thinking that if we have now finalized Rafinha's renewal, an agreement for Neymar's renewal will also be reached. There will be an agreement with Neymar. I do not doubt that."
Neymar, who moved to Camp Nou from Santos in 2013, has scored 12 goals and tallied four assists in 11 Spanish La Liga matches this season. In their Champions League campaign, the Brazilian talisman has netted two goals to go along with three assists.
