Following Sony's recent release of the low-end 3G smartphone Xperia E4, the company has now revealed another device to add to the E4 family.
Due to complaints that the E4 does not support 4G connectivity, Sony came up with the Xperia E4g which will incorporate the 4G LTE to the E4's specs. As such, faster Internet connection can be attained while the phone's battery life can be preserved for a longer time.
According to Sony, the E4g can be expected to function up to two days without charging, and even last for a week if the settings are adjusted.
The E4g will be made available this April with a price tag of $145. No announcements have been made as to which countries the phone will be released in. Official prices for every region are yet to be announced as well. However, Sony mentioned that retailers in the U.K. will include Carphone Warehouse, O2 and Vodafone.
In terms of design, the E4g will come in two colors - black and white. It features a 4.7-inch screen that offers a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels, providing its users with 234 pixels per inch. As the device is merely a 4G-upgraded version of the E4, it will not provide high definition quality when it comes to viewing photos, watching videos or playing games.
The E4g is powered by a 1.5GHz MediaTek MT6732 quad-core processor and comes with 1GB of RAM. For its shooters, users can find a 5-megapixel camera at the back that is capable of shooting 1080p high-definition video and a 2-megapixel snapper up front.
Although internal storage totals up to 8GB, Sony mentioned that some of it will be taken up by the software that will already be integrated into the phone. This will then leave users with approximately 4.8GB for apps, photos, music and movies. Nonetheless, a memory card can expand the phone's storage for a maximum of 32GB.
The E4g will come with Bluetooth 4.1 and NFC that will allow users to pair the smartphone wirelessly with other devices, such as smartwatches, speakers and earphones.
Thanks to a 2,300mAh battery cell, the E4g can last for up to two days with only a single charge. Interestingly, its Battery Stamina Mode is capable of turning off the functions that consume power the most. With the Ultra Stamina Mode, this shuts down everything except the phone's key functions, allowing its battery to retain its power for up to seven days.
Sony is also offering a Simple Home interface for the E4g that displays larger icons and offers faster access to one's favorite apps.
Several countries will also be getting the dual-SIM version of the E4g, which will enable users to switch between two phone numbers using the same device.
As with its E4 predecessor and all the rest of the new smartphones, tablets and wearables, the E4g is expected to be demoed at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month.
