LeBron James has recently responded to speculations that he has signed on to take on the leading role in a "Space Jam' sequel.
Last year, it was first reported that Warner Bros. was working on its plans for a long-awaited sequel to its hit 1996 comedy, particularly with James filling on for original star Michael Jordan next to a group of famous "Looney Tunes' characters.
While James' representatives dismissed such reports, the basketball star has since spoken optimistically about the notion, stating: "I've always loved "Space Jam.' It was one of my favourite movies growing up. If I have the opportunity, it will be great."
Now, "Space Jam 2' speculations are gracing the headlines once more after James signed a major entertainment deal with Warner Bros on July 22.
When asked about rumors of him starring in the sequel during a Twitter Q&A this week, James discreetly teases a fan by replying: "Maybe.......Guess we'll just have to wait and see."
Recently making his big-screen debut in Amy Schumer's "Trainwreck,' James is aware of what is in store for him if he does take on the role for the sequel. When asked by the Palm Beach Post if the possibility of fighting off the Monstars "freaks [him] out," the basketball star responded, "Absolutely. Those guys are very intimidating and they're bigger than us. We've got to do our due diligence here on Earth."
Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara reportedly deemed James as one of the world's most powerful brands; as such, his involvement with their unparalleled production and marketing expertise is expected to bring on a win-win situation for all, including the fans.
CrossMap also added that Charlie Ebersol is set to produce the film while Willie Ebersol has signed on to work on the script.
The release date along with the official cast members for "Space Jam 2' are yet to be announced.
Meanwhile, James is currently raking in positive reviews for his role in "Trainwreck,' which was released in the US on July 17 and will open in the UK on Aug.14. James takes on the role of a fictionalized grudgy version of himself, as he co-stars alongside Schumer, Tilda Swinton, Bill Hader ("Saturday Night Live') and Brie Larson ('21 Jump Street').
