With the news of Tom Holland taking on the role of the webslinging hero, former "The Amazing Spider-Man' actor Andrew Garfield recently opened up about his feelings of leaving the franchise.
"It's a mixed bag and it's a blessing," the actor told E! News at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's grants banquet at the Beverly Wilshire hotel. "I got to do it twice. I got to meet incredible artists. I got to have a wild experience and now I get to let it go, which is actually a really lovely thing."
Garfield was introduced as the friendly hero in 'The Amazing Spider-Man' in 2012 and, later on, reprised his role in the 2014 sequel.
"I'm very kind of at peace with it," he said. "It ran its course. I remember seeing you just before it all kind of began in Hawaii."
The 31-year-old actor also expressed his excitement in seeing Holland take on the iconic role in the highly-anticipated "Spider-Man' reboot.
"He's just a brilliant actor," Garfield said, while adding, "I can't wait to watch. I just can't wait to be a fan again and just watch and enjoy myself watching."
When asked about his feeling towards not wearing the Spider-Man costume again, Emma Stone's on-and-off boyfriend said he is looking forward to it as well.
"I'm just really excited to be a fan again as opposed to bearing the weight of it," he said.
Filmmaker Jon Watts, who will direct Holland in the "Spider-Man' standalone movie, opened up about being thrilled to see the 19-year-old actor play the teenage alter-ego Peter Parker as he spends his time in high school in the forthcoming filmthat is yet to be given a final title.
"He can be a real high school student. That's why people love Spider-Man. He's the most grounded, relatable of superheroes. And Tom can really do that. He captures that. And he can do a standing back-flip. He's perfect," Watts said.
"We saw many terrific young actors, but Tom's screen tests were special," Tom Rothman, the chairman of Sony Pictures Motion Pictures Group, also pointed out in an official statement following Holland's announcement as the new Spider-Man.
As for Garfield, he will make his next onscreen appearance in "99 Homes' opposite Michael Shannon and Laura Dern; he also served as producer on the upcoming indie film.
