Music streaming service Spotify has put forward its list of artists who might win big at the upcoming 2015 Grammy Awards this Sunday evening.
Spotify has come up with the list of possible Grammy winners based on streaming music results and trends. Looking into such metrics that was based on nearly 60 million subscribers, Spotify was able to make predictions of who may bag some of the top honors. These include Best New Artist, Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Album of the Year.
The main difference between Record of the Year and Song of the Year is that the former focuses on a single song or track, whereas the latter emphasizes the songwriter.
Most of Spotify's predictions were derived from the total number of times that the artists' content was streamed, hence deemed as "favorites.' Other picks were based on the artists' and songs' popularity online, being termed as the "dark horses.'
"[We] analyzed the listening habits of its 60 million users worldwide to look at the most viral songs, albums, and artists in those categories to predict the possible "dark horses," Spotify explained in its official statement.
Some of the predicted 2015 Grammy Award winners include "Chandelier' by Sia for Record of the Year; the Australian singer was included in both the favorite and dark horse categories.
The electropop track from her "1000 Forms of Fear' album was also predicted to win Song of the Year, but "Take Me to Church' from Irish musician Hozier remains a top contender.
Ed Sheeran's "X' was tipped to win the Album of the Year award, but "G I R L' by Pharrell Williams came close. For Best New Artist, Spotify picked 22-year-old Sam Smith, although it might also be possible that fellow British band Bastille to take the honors.
Aside from "Chandelier', other tracks included for Most Streamed Record of the Year include Sam Smith's "Stay With Me', "Fancy' by Iggy Azalea and Charlie XCX, the bubblegum pop track "All About That Bass' by Meghan Trainor, and Taylor Swift's sassy "Shake It Off.'
All of these songs were also included in the Most Streamed Song of the Year category, except for "Fancy' that was replaced by Hozier's "Take Me to Church' song.
For Most Streamed Album of the Year, the top five contenders are Ed Sheeran's "X', Sam Smith's "In The Lonely Hour', Pharrell Williams' "G I R L', Beyoncé's self-titled album and Beck's "Morning Phase.'
Finally, the Best New Artist top picks include Sam Smith, Iggy Azalea, HAIM, Bastille and Brandy Clark.
The 57th Annual Grammy Awards will take place on Sunday at Staples Center in Los Angeles.
