Following the resurgence of the "Star Wars' franchise and the rise of superhero films, it is undoubtedly reasonable for the "Star Trek' universe to get a reboot and land on theaters anytime soon.
As another film to boost the science fiction genre in movies, "Star Trek 3' will reportedly get a release date in 2016 with Justin Lin from the "Fast & Furious 6' movie on the director's chair.
While actor Simon Pegg has been tasked to come up with a contemporary version of the script for "Star Trek 3', there have been very limited details regarding cast members and movie details.
Karl Urban did tease about the upcoming film's concept, which he described as "phenomenal.'
Now, it seems that the updated script from Pegg and co-writer Doug Jung has highlighted a role that is fit for "Breaking Bad' star Bryan Cranston. The award-winning actor is reportedly in talks with the Enterprise team to take on a villainous role in "Star Trek 3.'
As pointed out by Film Divider, the script is calling for an antagonist that will ideally be represented by Cranston, who does not have his hands full at the moment and has reportedly "had words' with Enterprise about playing the part.
Awarded with five Emmys and Tony honors, Cranston is expected to rival the performance of Benedict Cumberbatch as Khan in the "Star Trek Into Darkness' released in 2013.
Written by director Roberto Orci, the original script for "Star Trek 3' focused on the crew as they carried out their mission and encountered an unanticipated threat. As such, many have expected that the upcoming film will be creating a new antagonist and following the "monster of the week' approach from the original series episodes.
On the other hand, it remains unconfirmed as to what mission Pegg and Jung will be including in the script, or which villain Cranston would be playing in "Star trek 3.'
Three females are reportedly being cast as well, including a Federation starship captain and the President of the United Federation of Planets.
"Star Trek 3' has already been scheduled to start filming on April 15 at Vancouver Film Studios and will hit theaters on July 8, 2016.
