Although the third "Star Trek' installment only started filming last week, two of its stars have reportedly been given the option of signing on for a fourth movie in the franchise.
While Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto could be renegotiating their agreements for a fourth installment, it seems that the other regular cast members, including Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin and John Cho have not yet been approached to sign a new deal for the upcoming sequel.
Nonetheless, both Quinto and Saldana recently posted pictures of themselves while on set and in full costume, dressed as their characters.
Quinto previously opened up about thinking of how the third movie of the rebooted "Star Trek' franchise will follow the story of a five-year mission.
According to the original James T. Kirk, which is being played by Chris Pine in the franchise reboot, the journey will be comprised of exploring "strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before."
Quinto also believes that the five-year mission will be included in the upcoming movie and that there will be an evolution of some sort among the characters.
"We're coming up on the 50th anniversary of one of the most iconic sci-fi series in entertainment history so it's inherently an ongoing story," the 38-year-old actor said.
Writer and actor Simon Pegg has not entirely opened up about "Star Trek 3', although he has dropped hints that Idris Elba could actually be in the movie and could portray a villainous role.
"I heard there's a rumor he's be spoken to about stuff"”so he may be in the film, but he won't be a Klingon," Pegg said, addressing the rumors that Elba would take on the role of the main villain. "Or maybe he will."
The "Mission: Impossible- Rogue Nation' actor also shared about writing the "Star Trek 3' script and revealed that he had been requested to create content that will make the new installment "less Star Trek-y" as Paramount Pictures is said to be aiming for a style that is comparable to that of "Avengers.'
Pegg previously confirmed that he had come up with a fresh new script and that he and co-writer Doug Jung had made great efforts in completing all necessary details under a tight deadline.
"We started again six months before we were due to start shooting, which is insane," Pegg shared in an interview with Radio Times last month. "In fact we start shooting in Vancouver in four weeks - and we're only handing in our first draft today."
Although Elba signing on to the movie remains uncertain, newcomer Algerian actress Sofia Boutella has been confirmed to join "Star Trek 3' for a mystery role.
After helming the last two installments, J.J. Abrams has returned this time to produce. Justin Lin, who previously worked on "The Fast and the Furious' films, has also signed on to the third movie for directorial duties.
"Star Trek 3' will make its way to theaters on July 8, 2016, two months before the 50th Anniversary of the "Star Trek' TV series.
