Prior to the official premiere of "Star Trek Beyond,' actor George Takei has already opened up about how he felt after watching the trailer for the latest film in the hit franchise.

Takei, who took on the role of Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu in the original "Star Trek' TV series in 1966, was not entirely impressed with the new movie's trailer, stating that the upcoming instalment seemingly lacks key elements.

"It doesn't have that element that made Star Trek, Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek, what it was," Takei said in an interview with Tech Insider.

"I didn't - in the preview - note anything of the substance of what made Gene Roddenberry's "Star Trek' so engaging and it was the commentary on social justice, political reality at the time," the 78-year-old actor added.

Nonetheless, Takei is looking forward to a spectacular presentation of the story and has also shared positive words about "Star Trek Beyond.'

"It looked like a terrific action-adventure movie," he said. "A lot of clinging on cliffs and getting smashed against rocks, so it should be a very successful Star Trek movie."

"Star Trek' creator Roddenberry preferred that the story be presented as an optimistic prediction of what humanity can achieve if it had "special delight in different ideas and different lifeforms". This concept will be integrated into "Star Trek: Beyond,' as pointed out by actor and co-writer Simon Pegg.

"It's going to be spectacular, but we're going to underpin that with some genuine 50th Anniversary ideas about what's happening in our world and the Star Trek world and try to make it a bit thoughtful too," Pegg said.

"Fast And Furious' director Justin Lin took on directorial duties from J.J. Abrams this time, filming from a script co-written by Pegg.

The Scottish star is joined by Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, John Cho and Anton Yelchin, who will all be returning and reprising their roles from the last two "Star Trek' films. Both Pine and Quinto have also reportedly renegotiated their contracts for the fourth installment.

New cast members have also signed on to "Star Trek Beyond,' including Idris Elba, who will be playing the film's main villain, and "Kingsman: The Secret Service' actress Sofia Boutella, whose role remains undisclosed.

As pointed out by James T. Kirk, who is being played by Pine in the new sci-fi franchise series, the crew's journey will focus on exploring "strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before."

Moreover, Quinto also shared that fans can expect a five-year mission in "Star Trek Beyond,' where there will be certain changes among the characters.

"We're coming up on the 50th anniversary of one of the most iconic sci-fi series in entertainment history so it's inherently an ongoing story," the 38-year-old actor said.

"Star Trek Beyond' makes its premiere on July 22, 2016, two months before the 50th Anniversary of the "Star Trek' franchise.
