"Star Wars Battlefront" just came out this week but developer EA is already focused on making possible sequels for the game.
According to EA CFO Blake Jorgensen, like "Battlefront," the sequels and other games will also be related to Disney's growing "Star Wars" film franchise, Gamerant reported.
Jorgensen made the announcement during the UBS Global Conference held in San Francisco on November 16, a day before the official release of "Star Wars Battlefront" for the Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms.
During the event, the executive talked about how EA's long-term partnership with entertainment giant Disney will affect the "Star Wars" video game series. And, as confirmed by Jorgensen, the deal means EA will be able multiple "Star Wars" games.
According to Jorgensen, these future titles will not be restricted to console and PC platforms. Instead, EA plans to release other games for mobile devices as well.
"We struck a licensing deal with Disney a few years back that's almost ten years in length," he told the event's attendees according to Gamespot. "The game that comes out tomorrow, 'Star Wars Battlefront,' is a traditional first-person style shooter game."
"Our goal is to make future 'Battlefront' games as well as other style games around the 'Star Wars' franchise, both on mobile as well as console and PC," Jorgensen added. "It's a huge opportunity for us."
The executive noted that EA's deal with Disney includes the six "Star Wars" films that have already been released few years ago. In addition, the game developer also has the licensing rights to work on projects related to the films that will come out after "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."
But, Jorgensen assured fans of the epic sci-fi series that EA has no plans to make future games directly based on the "Star Wars" films. Instead, the studio will use its access to the "Star Wars" films to create games that will expand its lore as long as these stay true to the franchise's original theme.
"We get access to all of the historical content as well as all the new content developed," he said. "The beauty of the 'Star Wars' franchise is it's almost unlimited in what you can do with it."
"We know Disney has done a great job with other franchises and we believe they'll do the same with 'Star Wars' over time in delivering new worlds, new characters, new vehicles, all the things that make great video games," he added. "Our goal is not to make video games directly about the movies, it's to use the IP in the movie to make great, exciting games."
