Given the recent release of Disney's "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and its impressive box office success, a lot of "Star Wars Battlefront" gamers are wondering if the game will get a DLC based on the new film.
But, according to a confirmation from developers EA and Dice, it seems "Battlefront" will not receive a content update that's directly inspired by the latest entry in the "Star Wars" film franchise.
According to a tweet from EA, the developers of "Battlefront" are solely focused on the original "Star Wars" trilogy, namely the films "A New Hope," "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi."
"Our team is focusing on the original trilogy for this release of 'Star Wars Battlefront,'" EA confirmed via Twitter.
This statement clearly indicates that "Battlefront" will not get a DLC that will tie up the game with "The Force Awakens. Despite this, EA's announcement also clashes with the release of "Battle of Jakku."
Although not exactly part of the recent film's overall narrative, Jakku played a central role in the movie as it served as one of the main plot points. For one, it is the desert planet that witnessed one of the major battles between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire before turning into the First Order.
But, as Ubergizmo pointed out, "Battle of Jakku" is more tied in with "Return of the Jedi" than "The Force Awakens" since the events laid out in this DLC too place only a couple of years after Episode VI. "The Force Awakens," on the other hand, is set 30 years after the last original "Star Wars" film.
But, despite not getting a "Force Awakens" DLC, "Battlefront" games can still look forward to several other content updates for the game in the future. Through these upcoming DLCs, EA and DICE could further explore the storylines of the first three "Star Wars" movies.
And, as noted by Screen Rant, EA has already given the green light for the sequel of "Battlefront." It is not yet clear, however, what the game will focus on. But, since the first title focused on the original trilogy, the sequel could be about other films in the franchise such as "The Phantom Menace," "Attack of the Clones" and "Revenge of the Sith."
Or, EA could wait for the third trilogy to finish before releasing "Star Wars Battlefront II." If the developer did this, however, gamers will have to wait a couple of years before they could get to play the sequel.
