With less than a month to go until the "Star Wars: The Force Awakens' movie premiere, director J. J. Abrams recently opened up about a new element in the upcoming film- a new Death Star.
Although there has been a wide range of speculations on the absence of Luke Skywalker from the current movie posters or the possible relationship between villain Kylo Ren and Rey, among others, Abrams himself confirmed that Star Wars universe will be brought to another level with a new Death Star.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly the 49-year-old helmer explained the role of the new Death Star 3.0.
"It is very much "” and it's acknowledged as such in the movie "” apparently another Death Star," Abrams said. "But what it's capable of, how it works, and what the threat is, is far greater than what the Death Star could have done. Starkiller Base is another step forward, technologically speaking, in terms of power."
Known as Star Killer, the new Death Star has been named after Luke Skywalker's original moniker. Abrams emphasized that it is considerably more lethal than the original Death Star, which had the capacity to destroy a single planet. Rather than just eradicating one planet at a time, the new Death Star will have the ability to destroy an entire galaxy.
General Hux, played by Domhnall Gleeson, will be the one commanding the new Death Star. Although Abrams did not disclose any more details, he unveiled never-before-seen photos of an unnamed ice planet where the battle between the First Order and the resistance will take place.
Meanwhile, there remain rampant speculations that Han Solo will meet his death in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens' while others believe that Chewbacca will be the one to die.
Even General Hux, a cold-blooded young officer of the First Order, is expected to end up with the same fate as General Grievous. Moreover, the shortest life expectancy in past "Star Wars' films can be associated with Imperial officers.
Nevertheless, fans will have to see for themselves in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens', which will be released on Dec. 18, while "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' is set to premiere a year later on Dec. 16, 2016. In addition, "Star Wars: Episode VIII' will be released on May 26, 2017.
