Microsoft has officially introduced the latest flagship device from its Surface Pro line.
Although the latest iteration looks a bit like the Surface Pro 3 at first glance, the new device sports a few notable changes and improvements.
In terms of display size, the Surface Pro 4 is slightly bigger than its predecessor at 12.3 inches. Although both devices have an aspect ratio of 3:2, the new model has better resolution at 2736x1824p, according to Ars Technica.
Microsoft also noted in its presentation that it has improved the touchscreen response as well as the contrast and brightness for the Surface Pro 4.
Of course, the Redmond-based tech giant's Surface Pro series is known for its laptop-tablet transformation feature. Like the other models from the series, the Surface Pro 4 also comes with an attachable Type Cover keyboard that instantly converts the tablet into a practical laptop.
But instead of slapping on the same keyboard design from older models, Microsoft still devoted its time to incorporate a few changes in the Type Cover. For example, the trackpad of Surface Pro 4's keyboard is 40 percent bigger than that of the Surface Pro 3, Forbes reported. It also has bigger spaces between the keys.
The standard model of the Type Cover keyboard costs an additional $130 and comes in various colors. The premium version, on the other hand, features a fingerprint reader and can be purchased for $160. According to Microsoft, these new Type Covers are also compatible with the Surface Pro 3.
Aside from the keyboard, the company also enhanced the functions of the Surface Pro 4's bundled Surface Pen. It comes with 1,024 levels of pressure sensitivity and even features an eraser top. Those who want to use the new Surface Pen to their old Surface Pro devices can do so and it can be purchased for $59.99.
As for the Surface Pro 4's internal specs, the standard or $899 model is powered by the Skylake Core m3 processor. It packs 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
The mid-range model, on the other hand, costs $999. It comes with the same RAM and storage specs as the standard model but runs on the Core i5. The next model, which costs $1,299, features the same chipset but features 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
Lastly, the premium model costs $1,499 and comes with the Core i5, 16GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage.
Microsoft's latest Windows 10-powered Surface Pro 4 is expected to debut in stores on October 26.
