Executive producer Jeff Davis originally believed that "Teen Wolf' would end after season five. However, MTV renewed the hit supernatural drama for a sixth season comprised of 20 more episodes.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the series creator opened up about rumors claiming that the upcoming installment will be the show's last.
"I have no idea," Davis said, laughing, "Who knows if [that] will be the last season or not."
If the network orders a seventh season, he prefers Tyler Posey to leave the title role.
"Beyond season six, I'd love for someone else to take over the show," the showrunner said. "If it still has life, if there's still stories to tell, that would be great."
Davis added, "[To] see maybe Dylan Sprayberry take over the role of the Teen Wolf and see Tyler Posey move into more of a Derek Hale (Tyler Hoechlin) role ... that would be the 'Degrassi High' version."
If such would occur in the seventh season, it could be assumed that Scott (Posey) and the other characters who are currently in their senior year at Beacon Hills High School will graduate at the end of the sixth installment.
Davis previously said that there will be no graduation in season 5B.
"One of the things we don't really do on 'Teen Wolf' is those teenage tropes, like graduation or prom," the head writer said. "We'll see if we ever get to graduation, but they won't have graduated by the end of 5B, partially because our timeline is also so condensed."
As for Posey, he previously shared his his ideas for season six, although he admitted that such notions may or may not be considered. Speaking at their panel for the San Diego Comic-Con, the 23-year-old actor said that it would be interesting to put their characters outside of Beacon Hills High School.
In addition, Davis explained how the show works when it comes to addressing time constraints.
"A season of 'Teen Wolf' takes three weeks in their actual lives because it's a thriller, and there's a compression of time that happens," he added.
As for their plans for season six, no details have been revealed yet, mainly because the cast and crew are currently working on the second half of the fifth season.
"Usually, when someone starts to bring up season six, another person says, "I don't even want to think about that right now," Davis shared.
