“Amid a national crisis resulting from the Democratic Party of Korea’s paralysis of state affairs and parliamentary dictatorship, President Yoon Seok-yeol declared martial law under the authority granted by the Constitution. This was an unavoidable decision made to protect the Constitution and the sovereignty of the people,” asserted the ‘Ten Million Koreans' Grand Alliance for Defending the Free Democratic System and Constitutional Order of the Republic of Korea’ in an appeal on Tuesday.
More than 300 civic groups, including the Korea Christian Association Institutional Council, the Korea Restoration Association, the Korea Freedom Association, the Korea Christian Conservative Federation, the Korea Christian Association, and the Korea Church Press, were listed as solidarity organizations.
In the appeal, the group said, “Corruption within the election system and the National Assembly created a threat comparable to civil war, leaving the president with no choice but to take action to address the situation.”
In addition, “According to Article 77 of the Constitution, the President has the authority to declare martial law during times of national crisis, which is a legitimate act under constitutional procedures. This measure will be noted as one of the most peaceful and shortest instances of martial law in the history of constitutional governance.”
The group stated, “South Korea’s election system is mired in opacity and suspicion of fraud. Evidence of election fraud uncovered through the investigations by the National Intelligence Service(NIS) and the Board of Audit and Inspection indicates that the sovereignty of the people has been seriously violated,” adding that “Acts that undermine the sovereignty of the people threaten the foundation of liberal democracy and must be rectified.”
“The NIS confirmed in July of last year that the election was fraudulent due to ‘computer manipulation’ through forensics of the National Election Commission (NEC) server,” the group stated. “Additionally, the NIS’s security inspection in October of last year revealed that the NEC’s election system is easily manipulable, vulnerable to external hacking, has a password of 12345, and a security score of 31.5 points, which is the lowest among all state agencies.”
The group emphasized, “Election fraud is a crime of rebellion that deprives people of their sovereignty. This is why the president had no choice but to declare martial law to secure the data from the NEC, expose the fraudulent election, and protect the sovereignty of the people.”
It also stated, “President Yoon Seok-yeol’s decision was a sacrifice to protect the free Republic of Korea. Let us all unite to eradicate anti-state forces, defend the values of liberal democracy, and build a proud future for the Republic of Korea.”
