"Legend" star Tom Hardy really, really loves dogs. The actor loves his furry friends so much that he claimed that "a dog couldn't do anything to upset" him.
His love for dogs started has already developed even before he shot to fame as an actor, and it all started with his late dog named Max, according to Vanity Fair, which compiled a list of interviews Hardy gave to other publications that highlighted his compassion for dogs.
"I wouldn't go to class unless Max was allowed in," recalled Tom. "My old drama teacher said, 'I remember when you used to walk into class with your dog in one hand and a can of Coke in the other.' Max was my support unit, it's like I had a focus; I had an identity and higher self-esteem because something relied on me and loved me constantly. Then I felt important."
His deep love for Max made him indignant of the injustices experienced by other dogs, who have been trained to fight and kill.
"I can't stand those kind that fight their dogs, but I wonder how many sleep with their dogs under the covers at night? I'm very, very lucky that people - from 17 to now - have always allowed me to have my dog around," he added.
Hardy also appreciates the fact that people can learn a lot of things from dogs, if they only open their hearts out to them.
"I do think there's a lot about a dog that we can learn from," he said. "And I do put the dog into a lot of my characters because a dog, if you watch them, they're so funny to watch. They speak with their eyes and their body, and I find that fascinating to observe."
As a tribute for his dog Max, who was given to him during his teenage years, Hardy played the title character in "Mad Max: Fury Road."
"They said, 'His name is Mad Max,' and I changed the name to Maximoose. A black dog, pit bull cross Labrador. Brilliant dog. He died the year that I made Max. There's a linear sort of coincidence as to how I feel about this now that I've ended up playing him," he shared.
Interestingly, the actor revealed that he does not have any friends, but he is perfectly contented to live with just his dog and his son.
"I don't have any friends. I don't keep them or entertain them for any of that kind of problem," he said. "So I like to keep to myself. I have a dog and a son. A dog couldn't do anything to upset me, you know, and neither could my son."
