Truett Cathy, Chairman and Founder of Chick-fil-A
Truett Cathy, the founder and chairman of the popular fast food chain Chil-fil-A was reported to have died earlier this morning. It was reported that the Christian businessman was surrounded by his loved ones and Christian leaders, ministers and even politicians have praised him for his faith and business ethic. He died at the age of 93 in his home.
Chick-fil-A started out as a single small chicken sandwich diner in Hapeville, Georgia by Cathy who grew up in Atlanta. Over the years, the small restaurant grew into one of America's largest family-owned businesses and in 2013 exceeded 5 billion dollars in annual sales.
Cathy is known for his "Close-on-Sundays" policy. This was for all employees working at any Chick-fil-A store in any part of the country. He wanted his workers to have rest, family time and particularly worship. For this, House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio tweeted, "Sad to hear of Truett Cathy's passing. He was a great American entrepreneur who treated his employees well."
Many religious and political figures from all over the country praised Cathy for his faith and Christian business principles through Social Networks. Perry Noble, a megachurch pastor posted on Twitter that Cathy was "a great man who built a great business, has a great family and kept your eyes on Jesus, you will be missed!"
Franklin Graham, the CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelical Association posted online about how he knew Cathy and some experiences they shared. His post on Facebook read, "I knew Mr. Cathy for many years and had the privilege of riding motorcycles with him. He was a fine Christian gentleman that carried his Christian business principles throughout life. His restaurants were never open on Sunday out of respect for the Lord's day. He was kind and extremely generous and used the profits from his business to help others. He will be greatly missed."
Dan T. Cathy, the son and current CEO of Chick-fil-A shared the news on his blog and shared, "We will miss him dearly. Please remember our family in prayer this week."
