Ultrasound, Not Enough To Dissuade Abortion

A study carried out by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (Obstetricians and Gynecologists journal) revealed that almost all women who decided to go through abortion believed they had made the right decision even after viewing an ultrasound image of the fetus.

The purpose of the research was to look for a relationship between the viewing of ultrasound image and one's decision regarding abortion for there is a recent spark of interest in this topic.

The research revealed that the ultrasound image had the most significant effect upon women who were uncertain of whether they wished to give birth to the child. Over 90 percent of such participants went through abortion while almost all those who did see the image decided against it.

The study may not be entirely accurate, but Dr. Albert Mohler, Jr. (Southern Baptist Theological Seminary) stated that it revealed something about how modern day humans view morality. "Human beings have a way of overcoming moral defenses ... Human beings may have their moral sensitivities changed for some time by looking at an ultrasound image. But in the culture of death and in the increasing subversion of human dignity, it may well be that the moral impact of that ultrasound image fades or decreases over time. I sincerely hope not."

Currently 10 states have made it mandatory for doctors to have women view the ultrasound image of the fetus before making the decision while the rest of the states give them the option of seeing the image.
