By this time last year, LG has already announced the G Pro 2, which was its rival for then Galaxy Note 3 flagship from Samsung. However, this year, the Korean manufacturer decided not to announce any high-end devices.
In a new report, it appears that LG will be replacing its G Pro lineup with another.
According to a report by Android Authority, the news came from LG Mobile's CEO Juno Cho. In the statement he made during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the executive mentioned that the company will indeed be replacing the G brand, but with something better.
"We are planning to release a product that stands above the G series. It will be launched during the second half of this year."
Because of the announcement, it is safe to say that LG's top smartphone today will be its flexible G Flex 2, that packs a 5.5-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) resolution P-OLED display, an option of either a 2GB or 3GB of RAM, and Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 810 chipset.
However, the report also mentioned that LG has recently filed a patent for a 'G Pen', which should be a stylus for an upcoming phablet. The report also speculates that LG may announce a newer phablet together with the LG G4, which is expected to be unveiled in June.
Additional details that were also mentioned by LG Mobile's CEO include the manufacturer's need to produce its own chipsets, just like what it included in its LG G3 Screen version.
"Producing our own mobile application chips is very important. As LG Electronics has been consistent in developing these, we plan to gradually incorporate into our new models... We do have a lot of issues that need to be addressed, but second- and third-generation processors will be much better. "
Aside from the new phablet lineup, the LG G3 and a new home-made processor, LG is also expected to market its new LG Watch Urbane smartwatch.
