While DC's two legendary heroes are about to go into a highly-anticipated brawl, it seems that the villains in their stories are winning.
Only a week after its official release, the first ever trailer for "Suicide Squad' has gone beyond viewers' expectations and triumphed over the "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' trailer based on the number of views on YouTube.
Looking at their official trailers, "Suicide Squad' has pulled in over 37.3 million views on the video sharing website while "Batman v Superman' has only 35.2 million.
These figures, however, only take into consideration the clips unveiled on Warner Bros.' official YouTube channel.
It remains great news for both the studio and DC Comics after initially having certain concerns about the bankability of "Suicide Squad.'
The name 'Suicide Squad' initially refers to a team of incarcerated villains who are sent on highly dangerous secret missions by the government in exchange for shorter prison sentences.
Government agent Amanda Waller, played by Oscar-nominated "The Help' star Viola Davis, will be the person in charge of sending the group of antagonists to their special assignments.
Director Ayer, who previously worked on "Training Day' and "Fury,' has reassured fans that he will be closely following the original DC Comics source material.
The presence of the Joker, portrayed by Jared Leto, was originally expected to favorably reach out to general audiences. However, based on the popularity of the film's trailer, it is likely that the intriguing villain-ensemble concept will significantly contribute to a more-than-satisfactory performance at the box office.
As such, it is expected that Warner Bros. and DC Comics will have two blockbuster hits on its slate in 2016.
Following the recently concluded Comic-Con event where the cast members of both films were present for their respective panels, the actors gathered together for a special joint photo for the newest issue of The Hollywood Reporter.
On the left side of the picture, the "Batman v Superman' cast is led by Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill as they pose alongside their co-stars Jesse Eisenberg (Lex Luthor), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Jeremy Irons (Alfred Pennyworth) and Holly Hunter (Senator Finch). They were also joined by director Zack Snyder.
On the right side of the picture, "Suicide Squad' director David Ayer can be spotted posing alongside the film's stars Will Smith (Deadshot), Cara Delevingne (Enchantress), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flagg), Jai Courtney (Boomerang), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Killer Croc), Adam Beach (Slipknot), Jay Hernandez (El Diablo) and Karen Fukuhara (Katana).
Aside from these confirmed characters, there are also mystery roles for actors Ike Barinholtz, Scott Eastwood, Raymond Olubowale, Alex Meraz, Jim Parrack and Common.
"Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice' will make its way to cinemas on Mar. 25, 2016 while "Suicide Squad' has been set for a release on Aug. 5, 2016.
