Another "The Walking Dead" companion series could be set in the works in the coming years.
AMC executive Charlie Collier sat down with Vulture and shared how the network has taken into consideration the expansion of the "Walking Dead' universe, as created by Robert Kirkman, by coming up with a third companion series.
"We are open to ideas that feel organic to the creators in whom we've put our trust. So if Robert had a world he wanted to explore, you can bet that we are not just leaning into that conversation, but we're actively engaging in it," Collier explained, when asked if AMC has plans to develop another companion series, especially with the success of Kirkman's second zombie drama hit- "Fear the Walking Dead.'
However, fans should not look forward to a new zombie drama from the network anytime soon; Collier admitted that, while they have considered the idea and will act on it if there is a need for the new series, they are currently placing more emphasis on "The Walking Dead' and "Fear The Walking Dead.'
"Right now we're not in that conversation, and there's nothing to report at all," Collier added. "[But] I'm a huge believer in Robert and the executive producers of these shows. We wanted to create a place where they would bring us their creative dreams and bring us their passion projects. If Robert had another one, we would absolutely engage."
If the network makes an official announcement to introduce the third "Walking Dead series, Collier assured viewers that it would remain greatly different from the original series and of the companion show.
"It isn't just, 'let's do more for more's sake,'" he stated, referring to AMC's plans of expanding "The Walking Dead" universe. "... We wanted to get Robert to feel like he had a world that was very different, as opposed to just an extension of the world we were in."
As fans of Kirkman's zombie drama shows already know, there will be more shocking moments in "Fear The Walking Dead' season two, particularly circumstances that the original series has not yet explored.
"'Fear' is going to be a journey show the way early seasons of 'The Walking Dead' were a journey," Kirkman said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly last year. "Always trying to differentiate the two shows as much as possible, being on the water is vastly different than being on the land."
The comic book writer also promised fans that there would certainly be "a lot of cool stuff coming."
"The Walking Dead' season six makes a comeback on Sunday, Feb. 14 at 9pm while "Fear the Walking Dead' season two is set to premiere on Sunday, April 10, also at 9 p.m. on AMC.
