Fox's "Gotham' has previously unveiled several key Batman antagonists that included the Penguin, Poison Ivy, Harvey Dent, the Riddler, Catwoman and the Scarecrow. Now, the show is prepping up to introduce, perhaps, the most famous Batman villain of all time.
The latest promo for the next upcoming episode, titled "The Blind Fortune Teller', has dropped hints about the Joker possibly coming to the series. While it remains uncertain whether the supervillain will be arriving in "Gotham' next week, the show's teaser is strongly emphasizing the concept of jokes.
Check out the clip below.
The promo points out that "Gotham's next villain is no joke' with Cameron Monaghan making a very familiar laugh that will remind fans of the Joker's warped sense of humor. However, it is still unconfirmed whether Monaghan is portraying the supervillain in the series as he is merely credited as the character "Jerome.'
The 21-year-old actor has made his appearances in the sci-fi film "The Giver' and the young-adult fantasy horror film "Vampire Academy.' Among TV viewers, Monaghan can be recognized for starring in Showtime's comedy drama series, "Shameless', in which he portrayed the role of a Gallagher family member.
Last July, "Gotham' showrunner Bruno Heller stated that they will only be teasing Joker's appearance in a subtle way to possibly fool viewers in the end. Recently, Heller has become more enthusiastic in making the reveal for one of the most iconic characters in Batman.
"We've said you're going to be waiting a bit longer for it, but this is America "” nobody wants to wait," Heller said. "So, we will scratch the surface of that story, yes. But just scratch it "” a little tap on the door."
Furthermore, the English director also made the official announcement that fans can look forward to seeing the Joker before the current season ends, although he pointed out that the show will not be strongly emphasizing the story behind the supervillain.
"Gotham' fans have been anticipating the appearance of the Joker on the upcoming episode to be aired on February 23 as James Gordon and Harvey Bullock will set off to hunt down the Red Hood Gang. During this time, it has been predicted for the Joker to make an appearance.
Apparently, he may come into the show a week earlier wherein the episode will show James and Dr. Leslie Thompkins heading over to the circus, which will soon be attacked. This episode on February 16 will also show a connection to Robin, thanks to the appearance of John Grayson and Mary Lloyd.
"Gotham' airs every Monday night at 8 p.m. E.T. on Fox.
