Microsoft announced that the latest Windows 10 will come with touch gesture feature for devices with touchpads and touch screens.
The operating system's feature is part of Microsoft's way to entice laptop and tablet users, according to The Verge.
The company made the revelation during its WinHEC conference. According to the presentation, Windows 10 comes with multi touch and swipe gestures that make interacting with the device more convenient.
For instance, using three fingers to tap the laptop's touchpad will activate the Windows intelligent personal assistant Cortana while tapping with four fingers will open the notification center.
Swiping downwards with three fingers, on the other hand, will show the desktop while using the same motion but in an upward direction will bring up the Task View.
As for tablet devices, Microsoft also simplified the swipe system for touch screens through the Windows 10. With the update, swiping to the right will open the notification center while swiping to the left will show the users their recently used apps.
Swiping in an upward direction from the tablet's bottom edge will bring up the task bar. Doing the opposite gesture will open a hidden title bar.
Microsoft's touch gesture interface was first unveiled through the Windows 8.1. The company noted that for the Windows 10, it has reduced the cost of producing touchpads that respond to this system, Windows Central reported.
Aside from the touch gesture, the company announced that the Windows 10 is scheduled to debut sometime this summer.
"We continue to make great development progress and shared today that Windows 10 will be available this summer in 190 countries and 111 languages," Terry Myerson, Microsoft's executive vice president for its Operating Systems group wrote on the Windows blog
Myerson noted that during the first year after its release, Windows 10 will be offered as a free upgrade for consumers in China whose devices are running on Windows 7, 8 and 8.1. This will be made possible through the company's partnerships with the Chinese firms Tencent, Qihu 360 and Lenovo.
