The upcoming installment for one of the most beloved X-Men characters, Wolverine, now has a writer. Michael Green, the man behind various blockbuster flicks such as Blade Runner 2 and Green Lantern, will be taking on Wolverine 3, starring Hugh Jackman, according to The Wrap. He will be rewriting the script based on the original draft created by David James Kelly.
Earlier this year, Jackman himself hinted on the possibility that Wolverine 3 will be the last he'll play the character. "WOLVERINE ... ONE LAST TIME. HJ," captioned the actor in an Instagram photo he posted which showed a single pair of claws that could presumably be his hand and the prop for the upcoming film. As expected, Jackman's post was immediately questioned by fans who were mostly distraught and disappointed on the possible implications of the news.
While this news devastated most of the fans of the franchise, Jackman remains upbeat when talking about the character. "I am enjoying him more than ever. Being older helps playing Wolverine. He's 200 or 300 years old - no one really knows - and he's sort of world-weary. The actual working out gets harder and harder, I'll admit," he shared in an interview with Empire Online.
He went on to say, "I love the character, he's kind of like a best friend to me, and I don't ever want to take [him] or the fans for granted. I think we've got a great opportunity to make something really cool, but it has to be great. That's what we're all working toward."
With regard the plot for Wolverine 3, a lot of speculations have surfaced including one that pointed out the possibility of Wolverine and Professor Charles Xavier, played by Patrick Stewart, to work closely together. "What I'm very excited about is that we have been talking about a Wolverine movie, which would team Hugh Jackman and myself together," admitted Stewart in an earlier interview with Oregon Live. "Wolverine and Professor Xavier. That would be a very different sort of 'X-Men' from the four movies that I've already done," he disclosed. The actor went on to joke, "I'd just like to get to drive his [Wolverine's] motorbike, I think."
Meanwhile, Stewart also took on the opportunity to clarify rumors regarding Ian McKellen's participation in the film X:men: Apocalypse. "Magneto, Ian McKellen, is certainly going to be in it," he made clear, referring to speculations stemming from his own absence in the said flick.
Wolverine 3 is said to be directed by James Mangold and will be premiered in the big screen on March 3, 2017.
