Actor John C. Reilly confirmed that he will be returning as voice cast member for "Wreck-It-Ralph 2.'
Based on the Twitter account of producer Penny Hart of Irish radio program "RTE Arena,' Reilly confirmed during an interview at the Galway Film Fleadh that a "Wreck-It Ralph' sequel is indeed in the works and the actor will once again voice the video game bad guy-turned-good.
Since the first movie's release in 2012, the film has raked in mostly positive reviews and earned more than $470 million in the international box office, deemed as "Toy Story with video games."
Rich Moore, the movie's director, announced that the upcoming sequel could shed light on Ralph's story as he explores the worlds of online gaming and console gaming.
Moreover, there have reportedly been negotiations with Nintendo to bring some of their signature characters, such as Mario, Luigi, Zelda and Link, to team up with Ralph and company.
"We'll really come up with something good for Mario to do [in the next film]," said Moore."To be able to present him in the sequel, would be great."
Moore also plans to look into Disney's own video game property TRON, whose third installment was put on hold, which might lead to an ultimate "Wreck-It Ralph' crossover.
"I can't specifically remember why that didn't happen," Moore shared. "Of course, with a sequel, I'm hoping that we can find a way to see Tron himself in that movie."
In 2013, Moore said that he and the "Wreck-It Ralph' stars would "jump at the opportunity" to work on a sequel to the successful animated film.
"My experience was so tremendous on this film and the animators, the designers, the story artists, the actors -- I know everyone here had a good time making the film," he said. "I've talked with John and Sarah [Silverman] and we would all love to visit that world again and work with those characters again"¦We're all crossing our fingers about as far as you can cross them that we get a chance to do that."
Original co-stars Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer and Jane Lynch have not yet been confirmed whether they will join Reilly in returning for the sequel. The movie also does not have a slot on the Disney animation slate, which includes upcoming films "Zootopia,' "Moana,' "Giants' and "Frozen 2.'
In 2012, Silverman also confirmed to Moviehole.net that "there will [be a sequel]."
Other details about the "Wreck-It Ralph' sequel are yet to be announced.
