Microsoft has recently announced that the Xbox One Cross Play feature has been upgraded to something gamers will love.
In a letter from Chris Charla, director of ID@Xbox, which was posted on the Xbox Wire, it stated "First, in addition to natively supporting cross-platform play between Xbox One and Windows 10 games that use Xbox Live, we're enabling developers to support cross-network play as well.
This means players on Xbox One and Windows 10 using Xbox Live will be able to play with players on different online multiplayer networks - including other console and PC networks."
It may have been subtly announced, but this also means that Xbox One players can now play their games on a cross play feature with PS4 users as well as those who have the PC platform. Despite the latest upgrade on the Xbox One Cross Play, Microsoft said, they are maintaining their primary role for game developers as the main platform to publish their games and use it as their primary marketplace.
Included in the letter is the assurance for game developers to still choose whether they allow their games to be available on the Xbox One Cross Play multiplayer or not. Xbox one owners will also have the option to opt out on the new feature or play along with current PS4 owners.
Currently, Microsoft has Psyonix's "Rocket League" as the first game to launch on the multiplayer Xbox One Cross Play. "Rocket League" can now be played by Xbox One owners alongside PC gamers. Microsoft also announced the upcoming independent games slated for Xbox One this year and they include "We Happy Few," "INSIDE," "Below," "SuperHot," "Cuphead," "Pit People" and "Worms WMD."
The Xbox Game Preview is also picking up momentum after several games opted to join the project. Games including "Layers of Fears," "Ark" and "The Long Dark" has been previewed and greatly participated by Xbox One users. The Xbox One Game Preview allows players to input their feedback on upcoming games, thus helping developers to improve the concept of the game.
The Xbox One Cross Play feature can now be used alongside PC gamers with an open invitation for other platforms as well.
