The upcoming reboot of the Spider-Man franchise became a ripe ground for countless speculations to surface particularly on the replacement of Andrew Garfield, who was confirmed to be off the project, as the lead actor.

However, two names appear to be consistently linked to the franchise. In an article from Movie News Guide, it was reported that the new Spider-Man might be a toss up between Logan Lerman and Dylan O'Brien.

In an earlier report, it was revealed that the Spider-Man franchise will be returning to the Marvel Universe following an agreement between the company and Sony Entertainment Pictures. Although the news of this contract excited and definitely thrilled a lot of viewers of the comic book series turned movie, some fans and followers of the superhero are worried about the actor to be chosen to play the beloved character.

The agreement of the two competing studio giants also indicated that the story of Peter Parker as the Spider-Man might become more appealing to the public if the high school version of the superhero will make a comeback as well.

Although the high school storyline is no longer a unique perspective to the viewers as the both versions of Peter Parker played by Tobey Maguire and Garfield were already featured as students at the Midtown High School, the executives remain confident that the upcoming movie will still provide a fresh take on the matter.

According to Variety, the new film will use Midtown as the major location for the crimes. Hence, Peter Parker will be featured as a crime fighter who battles bad guys outside his school hours. In addition, the nerdy superhero's relationships and interactions with his schoolmates will be showcased as well. Hence, viewers could expect awkward conversations and a bit of high school drama.

With this in mind, the rumor mill began churning and various names began to pop out. Given the speculated age bracket of the character, the young budding actors of today are the main focus of attention. However, Lerman and O'Brien appear to be the strongest contenders for the role.

Lerman's well-known roles involve playing main characters in movies such as the two films from the Percy Jackson series and Perks of Being a Wallflower, which also starred Emma Watson. Meanwhile O'Brien was the lead actor in The Maze Runner as well as a major role in Teen Wolf.

However, fans should not expect a solo Spider-Man film right away as Peter Parker is set to make an appearance in Marvel's Captain America: Civil War before getting a standalone project. The new Spider-Man movie is set for release on July 28, 2017.
